We played bingo with the team today, first time I tried it.

I like this better than the other casino games (slot, roulette and poker). You can only win, not lose coins with this one and only play it with tickets. For the other casino games you would get a coin ticket worth 100 coins every week, or find coin tickets of varying values in chests, or buy them for money. You can only buy coins until you have a 1000, after that you have to add them by winning or from the other above mentioned sources. But of course, if you spend or lose a lot of coins and go below 1000 again, you can keep using money to keep playing.

In addition to the weekly coin ticket we now also get 3 bingo tickets per week but they cannot be bought. There is a little bit of strategy involved but it is mostly luck based. It’s appealing visually as well and fun to play in a group (up to 16 players). So basically fun gambling but without the risk of going broke.

On the bingo floor there are also tables for another new game called sugoroku which will be added in a future update. Tables have four seats (for four players I assume) and it is a kind a board game. As in previous Dragon Quest games, it plays more like parcheesi than the actual sugoroku, which is a variant of backgammon.

Version 2.3 also brought new equipment. Since the level cap wasn’t raised in a while and remains at 80, this is the second batch of level 80 equipment. You can check all level 80 equipment here, the first 5 were added in 2.1, the last 5 in this update:

http://nanasi.futene.net/dq10/soubi_lv80.html

For my gladiator (and soon my tamer and martial artist, once they also reach 80, currently both at 70) I bought the Golden Dragon set. If you equip all 4 items at once, it will raise both HP and MP by 5, raise fashion sense by 30, protect from getting charmed with 20% probability, and has a 10% chance at the beginning of a battle to increase the critical hit rate for the whole battle.

I didn’t want to spend too much money so the bracelet and shoes have some failed alchemy effects, which caused them to be quite cheap. The main body armor has decent defense alchemy and the head band decent HP boost alchemy. I spent close to a million G but if I had gone for the best available ones each piece of equipment would have far exceeded a million on its own. As people get better at making these new equipments prices are expected to only increase so I bought ahead of my gladiator reaching 80 today.

The Golden Dragon motif is kinda nice but as for the cut, I liked some of the other, previously released, martial arts themed equipment sets better. I even considered changing the appearance with dress up but settled for just changing the blue on the main body piece to a darker shade. The motif is too nice to cover it with another appearance, and dressing up high level armor is very expensive too.

Years ago, I was gonna write a story about a Slime from Dragon Quest who wanted to become a mage. All I remember about it is this forum avatar/signature set I made.
